Moon

Our Moon

Our Moon taken from Staffordshire, UK by Nigel Armitage in January 2026.

This is the first image I have taken of the moon with the new telescope.

The first image that worked to be fair!
I took a whole bunch of images of the moon, only to discover I needed a video!

So, this image is actually 3200 images, I took two 6 minuet videos, one of the northern hemisphere and one of the southern, then each frame was separated from the video and stacked together.
This gave me two images which I then stitched together giving me what you see.

It’s all very technical! And to be fair, I’m still not convinced I got it right, I will keep trying.

The Moons diameter is 2159 miles, ¼ that of the Earth and it is 238.854 miles away.

This image contains 3200 nanosecond exposure  images  totalling 6 minuets of data.
It was taken  in a Bortle 5 Sky.

The equipment used was:
Equipment Used:

The image was processed using PIPP and Photoshop.
